Two Victims Identified in the Ivy League School Shooting as Authorities Persist in Manhunt for Gunman.

Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s violent attack on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their shooter carried on following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the sole person questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also posted sympathies on social media, remarking: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.

His name was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

The Shooting Incident

Nine more persons were wounded in the weekend shooting in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Officials stated late Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a police operation at a lodging about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our community”.

The shooter opened fire inside a room in the engineering facility on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the media outlet.

Officers that raided the hotel found two handguns and two ammunition clips when the suspect was arrested, as was reported.

Condition of the Injured

Among those wounded, one student was allowed to go home, said the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private academy in the city of Durham, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Further Tributes

Tributes were paid to Cook at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at Brown she was a shining example in that institution as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and fellow classmates,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and fellow students and mourn the loss of his bright future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the nation’s seventh-oldest university with about 7,300 undergraduate and postgraduate students, took place amid one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in this year, according to statistics. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
