This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
