This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Seeks to Curb the Influence On Speculators

Marking the launch of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership has been formed. The Pokémon Company alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store featuring exclusive merchandise. Fans will find products like stationery, plushes, and artwork that are inspired by the museum's theme. For collectors, though, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase for the pop-up. This shop is scheduled both on-site at the museum and its web counterpart between late January and mid-April.

Pokécology That Inspires the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome packed with stunning illustrations that show creatures in their natural habitats. It's essentially like the kind of research a Pokémon Professor could produce after adventurers submit their data, or a naturalist's journal could have sketched if the Galapagos teemed with flying-types instead of birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's scholarly treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of scientific study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in ecology and behavioral science.

What Makes This Promo Card Stand Out

It is common for The Pokémon Company to release promos for major tournaments and crossover partnerships. Many such promotional cards often feature the famous electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this new promotion apart is its distinctly bigger dimensions. Although exact measurements have not been publicly disclosed, availability will certainly be strictly limited, with fans able to get only a single card with each transaction.

Curbing Speculator Activity

Per a company announcement, some of the pop-up items will also be sold beyond the museum walls. However, a wider release will only be specific stores in the UK. Critically, fans will not be able to acquire this promo through the official web shop. While reseller interest is inevitable, it appears they will have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. If you're feeling left out, there is the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit coming to the Windy City in the coming months.

"Every penny of sales from the museum store and its online store, including Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. That encompasses the research of hundreds of researchers dedicated to scientific inquiry and finding answers to the planetary emergency," it says.
