The Gory Cartoon Movie Ending That Haunts Fans
Among all the mature cartoon movies I’ve ever viewed, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the terror-laced ending of a explicitly bloody as well as overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spain-based writer-director crafted a dark, bleak and often savage universe with some tiny , forlorn glimmers of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars feels like it stemmed from a desire to expand animation even more, the filmmaker explained that it was more an attempt to communicate a global, multicultural theme concerning “the shared root of all wars.”
This theme is communicated through a squad of colorful pastel bears , clearly inspired by a popular series of cuddly figures.
Growing up in a community focused on aggression and the military-industrial complex, a lot of these animals are fixated on exterminating the mythical beasts, due to a religious scripture which states the bears they used to be kings of the woodland, before these creatures expelled them.
Others haven’t fully accepted the indoctrination, , choose to experiment with substances and fornicate outdoors.
Unlike their gentle counterparts, these colorful critters show sexual organs , definite sex drives.
For one especially vicious, pessimistic creature, Bluey, the battle with the unicorns becomes a road to power — and especially to dominance over his gentler, more compassionate sibling Tubby.
The character behaves aggressively and an obvious psychopath , and when horror overcomes his squad and kills his comrades one by one, he seizes progressively control on his own behalf, in increasingly gory, damaging approaches.
At the same time, the horned creatures are suffering their own horror, through a spreading, destructive monster in their forest.
“Initially, it appears as a humorous movie,” the director commented. “Yet it becomes a more intense and sorrowful movie. And ultimately, it’s a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars starts out resembling one of the more quirky films by an iconic animator, which find a mischievous joy in permitting cartoon characters swear, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Subsequently it becomes more akin to a more grim film from the same artist, featuring progressively graphic violence and a palpable connection to genuine horror of war.
Ultimately, it becomes an outright theatrical horror massacre.
The horror that makes this a Halloween-friendly movie starts a lot earlier than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore lovers of violence, for fans of graphic films who wish to view a movie they have not watched previously, and can endure a story which delivers absolutely no punches.
Watch it in a dark room free from interruptions, and the conclusion will burrow deep within you and linger.
