The former Liverpool manager says coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is an option. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title last season, but many fans who adore the manager would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he told his interviewer: “I declared I will never coach a different club within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about what circumstances would need to occur to tempt his return to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather for lengthy sessions; No need for interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the adjustments that took the title in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and the effect for the team. Jota died tragically in a road accident alongside his brother recently.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates too. Not a single person might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
