New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “However, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD released surveillance images Monday of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries according to reports.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
