Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
