Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
